1. Bhadla Solar Power Park
The largest solar park in the world as of 2021 is located in Bhadla, Phalodi tehsil, Jodhpur district, Rajasthan, India, and spans a total area of 5,700 hectares (14,000 acres).
The park can produce 2245 MW in total. As of December 2020, the park had the lowest bid for solar energy in India, at $2.44 (3.1 US) per kilowatt-hour. Acme Solar said in September 2018 that it had put India’s cheapest solar power plant—200 MW at Bhadla—into service.
Bhadla, formally recognized as a 45 km2 area of sandy, dry, and arid terrain, is situated around 320 km west of the state capital Jaipur and about 200 kilometers north of Jodhpur. Due to its climate, the area has been called “nearly uninhabitable.” In Bhadla, the average temperature ranges between 46 and 48 °C (115 and 118 °F), with scorching winds and sandstorms frequently occurring. The Bap village is the closest settlement to Bhadla, while Phalodi, a tehsil town, is the closest metropolitan region, both of which is 80 kilometers (50 miles) distant.
2. Longyangxia Dam Solar Park
The most recent significant solar energy project in China is the Longyangxia Dam Solar Park. Currently, produce around 2200 Megawatts of Electricity. According to the state-run Xinhua news agency, the farm is anticipated to grow to 220-gigawatt hours of electricity annually, which is enough power for 100,000 households.
The 178-meter-tall (584-foot) dam was constructed for irrigation, flood control, ice control, and the production of hydroelectric power. A 1,280 MW power station with four 320 MW units that can operate at a maximum of 1400 MW is supported by the dam. The Golmud located Solar Park, owned and operated by Huanghe Hydropower, is a 2000 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic power plant that can be found in Golmud, Qinghai Province, North West China. Construction on the facility started in August 2009 and it was completed on October 29, 2011. The expected output is 317 GWh annually.
There are 570 MW of solar parks in Golmud, many of them are situated in the Golmud Desert Cluster, with 500 MW more anticipated in 2012. The 20 MW Qinghai Golmud Solar Park, among others, was finished in 2011.
4. Pavagada Solar Park
Pavagada Solar Park is a solar park covering an area of 53 square kilometers (13,000 acres) in Pavagada taluk, Tumkur district, Karnataka.
The park, which was completed in 2019, has a 2,050 MW capacity. After the 2,245 MW Bhadla Solar Park in Rajasthan and the 2,200 MW Huanghe Hydropower Hainan Solar Park in China, it is the 4th largest photovoltaic solar park in the world as of April 2022. The project cost 14,800 crores ($2.1 billion) in total.
5. Benban Solar Park
Benban Solar Park is a Solar plant with a total capacity of 1650 MW nominal power which corresponds to an annual production of approximately 3.8 TWh.
It is located at Benban (Aswan Governorate), which is in the western desert and is around 650 kilometers south of Cairo and 40 kilometers northwest of Aswan. Currently, Benban is the 5th-largest solar power facility in the world.
6. Tengger Desert Solar Park
The Tengger solar park, also known as the “Great Wall of Solar” and situated in Zhongwei, Ningxia, occupies 3.2 percent of the 36,700 km2 Tengger desert by covering 1,200 km of it.
China National Grid and Zhongwei Power Supply Company are the owners of the 1,547MW facility. The power plant’s construction began in 2012, and it was operational by 2017. Tianyun New Energy Technology, Beijing Jingyuntong Technology, Ningxia Qingyang New Energy, Qinghai New Energy, and Zhongwei Yinyang New Energy were among the project’s developers.
More than 600,000 homes receive green energy from the solar farm.
7. Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is a solar park located in Saih Al-Dahal, about 50 kilometers south of Dubai. It spans a total area of 77 km2. Based on the independent power producer (IPP) model, it is one of the biggest renewable energy projects in the world. The long-term project will also feature concentrating solar power in addition to solar farms using PV technology (CSP). The overall project is expected to have a capacity of 3,000 megawatts.
As the winning bid of the tender set a new record-low tariff of just US $5.89 per kilowatt-hour, the 200-megawatt second phase of the project attracted interest on a global scale. This is around 20% less than any other unsubsidized power purchase agreement (PPA) that has ever been witnessed in the history of the globe. A 25-year time period is specified for the PPA.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority put in the plant (DEWA). On October 22, 2013, the project’s initial phase was put into operation. The solar PV complex’s producing capacity at the end of 2020 was 1.013 GW, and its goal is to achieve 5 GW by 2030. The fourth (700 MW CSP + 250 MW PV) and fifth (900 MW PV) phases are currently being built.
8. NP Kunta Ultra Mega Solar Park
The NP Kunta Ultra Mega Solar Park, also known as Ananthapuram – I Ultra Mega Solar Park or Kadiri Ultra Mega Solar Park is located in Andhra Pradesh, India. It is now the 8th Largest in the world covering over 35 KMs. It generates over 1200 Megawatts of Electricity and plans to increase over 1500 Megawattsin the future.
9. Noor Solar Park Abu Dhabi
The largest single-site solar power facility, Noor Abu Dhabi, lies close to Abu Dhabi in Sweihan. Noor is the Arabic word for light. 3.2 million solar panels are present. It produces around 1177 Megawatts of Electricity & 90,000 people in Abu Dhabi receive renewable electricity from the plant. The solar panels are cleaned by a robotic system that doesn’t need water. Every day, the robots clean it over a distance of 1600 kilometers. It is run by the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company subsidiary Sweihan PV Power Company (TAQA). It is a partnership between the Abu Dhabi Government and a group that includes Jinko Solar Holding in China and Marubeni Corp. in Japan. It was commissioned by solar energy providers Wilson Solar and Sterling Solar, both from India.
10. Jinchuan Solar Park
Jinchuan in China’s Gansu hosts the 10th largest solar park in the world. Jinchuan is surrounded by many solar parks in clusters. It is almost 90 km2 of semi-desert to North West of the city, while a further cluster of the projects is to the south. The solar park has been increased to 16 plants with a combined capacity of just over 1050 MW currently. Jinchuan’s largest plant has a capacity of over 200 MW.
